The Faith, The Soil, The Blood: How to Write Textbooks on Geopolitics

On the 21th of February took place another open seminar  The Faith, The Soil, The Blood: How to Write Textbooks on Geopolitics in Modern Russia carried out by Mikhail Suslov, PhD in History, researcher at the Uppsala Centre for Russian and Eurasian Studies (Sweden).

The pivotal point of the discussion was an advent of the critical geopolitics in the academic space of the post-Soviet Russia as a viable but still problematic alternative to the current and, frankly speaking, old-fashioned approaches.

The main line of criticism towards the predominant geopolitical view in the Russian textbook is a prevalence of ideologically biased narratives. Put otherwise, the geopolitics applies plays a role of a metanarrative, indiscriminately explaining  everything what happens in a society.
